Civic Education in Pakistan :: Educational School Governmental Essays
Civic Education in Pakistan Pakistan is a post-colonial nation-state. Since 1947 this large Muslim nation has not been able to introduce a liberal democratic model of civic education in its schools that could have promoted democratic values, tolerance, gender equality and civic participation skills. Several factors are responsible for impeding the progress in civic education: a garrison culture, the Cold War exigencies, religious extremism, and feudalism. Introduction Like most post-colonial nation-states Pakistan also recognized the central role of civic education in creating a patriotic citizenry. Paradoxically, as the civic education curriculum in government schools emphasized the construction of a distinct Muslim citizen identity, it eschewed the transmission of universal democratic values such as individual liberty, gender equality, critical thinking, and respect for religious and cultural diversity. By failing to recognize the utility and advantages of the basic principles of liberal democratic model of civic education, Pakistan suffered irreparable losses: it disintegrated into two countries, lost national unity and receded into the past (Jahan, 1972; Oldenburg, 1980). What may be responsible for thwarting the liberal democratic model of civic education in Pakistan is a question that warrants a careful examination. This paper argues that four independent variables kept the liberal democratic model of civic education curriculum at bay: the p rimacy of a garrison nation-state, the Cold War exigencies, religious extremism, and feudalism. The following is a discussion on the role of these four variables. A Garrison State First, Pakistan is a garrison state in that since its independence in 1947, it has been pre-occupied with national security (Jalal, 1991). Hence the main objective of civic education curriculum in schools has been the preparation of a warrior citizen (Binder, 1963). A warrior citizen or Mujahid is a person who is willing and prepared to participate in war or jihad against the infidels. To this end the social studies textbooks glorified the past Muslim warriors including Saladin Ayubi, an Arab warrior who fought the Crusaders in Jerusalem, Tipu Sultan who fought the British imperialists in India, and contemporary Pakistani military heroes who died in three wars against India. Moreover, because for most of its history the military ruled the country, the dominant social class in Pakistan has been the military (Cohen, 1984). The military is considered a privileged class and, therefore, military values of conformity, regimentation, and masculinity are underscored in society in general and in the educational institutions in particular.

Slavery In Latin America Essay -- Slavery Essays
Slavery In Latin America à à à Slavery in the Americas was quite diverse. Mining operations in the tropics experienced different needs and suffered different challenges than did plantations in more temperate areas of Norther Brazil or costal cityââ¬â¢s serving as ports for the exporting of commodities produced on the backs of the enslaved peoples from the African continent. This essay will look at these different situations and explore the factors that determined the treatment of slaves, the consequences of that treatment, and the conditions that lead to resistance by the slaves working in their various capacities. à à à à à After the initial conquest of Mexico and South America it was time to develop the economy and export the resources that would benefit the monarchy back home in Spain and Portugal. Silver and Gold were two such commodities. Silver mines in Northern Mexico were supervised by blacks who directed the Indians in the arduous task of extracting the precious metal. Gold in Central Mexico was also mined by blacks. The Gold mining regions were hot, tropical, isolated areas of the jungle. The regions were sparsely populated and it was difficult to keep the locals as a work force. The introduction of disease in the tropics made these areas death zones to the indigenous people as they had no resistance to the virulent plagues. There was a need to get cheap or free labor that would be capable of resisting the disease and who would be easier to dominate than the locals who could run off and establish themselves elsewhere relatively easily. The natural answer was to obtain slaves from the African continent. The slave trade was already in operation on the African continent. Coastal cities there often enslaved inland peoples so it was not difficult to obtain the stock and export them to the Americas. à à à à à Slaves in the mining regions were subject to harsh, isolated conditions. There were few females and little or no community amongst the slaves. Some of the workers did have access to money and as a result could negotiate there freedom for a price. In 1732 1/3 of the African population of Choco was free as a result. Less fortunate slaves who found the conditions unbearable fled to even more isolated areas of the back country to survive on their own or in small colonies. à à à à à The Sugar plantations of Northern Brazil were a major c... ...so manumission possibilities increased. Slaves isolated from family life and culture working in miserable conditions were often flight risks as they had no real options and the terrain lent to good hiding. There were also no whites around to hire as cheap labor to search them out and return them. Mulatto and Criollo slaves were higher on the socioeconomic ladder than the Bozal and were therefore less likely to resist as they were a step away from freedom which meant they would not consider fleeing as good an option as remaining in the social circle and family they had established. à à à à à Slavery under any conditions is not the optimum existence for human beings. It is a fact that human nature seeks to dominate. Greed and money are often at the root of such efforts. The Israelites, the Irish, the Africans, and enumerable other groups have heritage that includes a period of slavery or of enslaving or both. African Cimarron communities even enslaved other African fleeing the plantations. It is not rooted in race as much as it is rooted in human nature. The preceding essay is just a synopsis of how it functioned for Africanââ¬â¢s in certain regions during a space in history.
Review of Brazil the Movie Essays -- essays research papers
Upon watching the movie Brazil for the first time, the first thought which comes to mind is ââ¬ËWHATââ¬â¢. However, once past the exterior of the movie, one is able to divine its true meanings. Written by Terry Gilliam, Charlie McKeown and Tom Stoppard, Brazil was a groundbreaking movie which brought to light many issues within society which were valid in 1985 and remain so today. This text is valued because of the issues it raises, such as technology, an unwieldy government and consumerism, which are timeless issues. Brazil is based around a futuristic bureaucracy, where everything and everyone is property, there is little or no communication, and with the right forms, you can legally do whatever you want. This movie shows the flaws of such a system, that whilst aiming for perfection, is merely digging itself deeper into confusion and destroying the very society it seeks to control. Brazil is a dark comedy which shows us the consequences of handing over our lives to a faceless bureaucracy. Sam Lowryââ¬â¢s world is made up of millions upon millions of machines, upon which everyone relies to survive. Machines perform basically every task that there is, from the most mundane task such as creating food, to the most complex and important tasks such as deciding the fate of every living person within the system. When we first meet Sam his alarm clock is not working, the phone is large and hard to work, and the food that his machines make is completely inedible. This does not bode well for the people, for if the machines cannot even handle the most basic of tasks, how could they possibly handle the complex ones? We are taken further into the world of faults and failings within the system later on, when Sam has major problems with his heating ... ...reedom, and that the mind is the only truly safe place. Brazil is a film which rolls up all of the problems which society was experiencing at the time that it was made into one darkly humorous movie. Commercialism, terrorism, technology, bureaucracy and government control, cosmetic surgery and the lack of freedom and individual expression. This movie was not mainstream because of the way that it delivered its message, and also perhaps simply because the government suppressed it somewhat. However, this film provided great insight into these problems, and continues to do so today, as many of these problems continue to exist. Brazil aims to highlight these problems and make the viewer think about what they have seen. This movie was not intended to change the world, but simply to try to prevent it from spiralling down into a dystopian Brazil-like chaos.

Luxury Retail Management Individual Assignment Luxury Brands Digital & OMNI Retail Strategies Decoding DIOR DNA â⬠¢ â⬠¢ â⬠¢ Feminine Princess Sexy CODES â⬠¢ â⬠¢ â⬠¢ Cannage Knot & Oval Rose â⬠¢ â⬠¢ Flirtatious Francaise â⬠¢ â⬠¢ Avenue Montaigne New Look Distribution Strategy â⬠¢ Dior Beauty is following a multi-channel distribution strategy worldwide. â⬠¢ Mainly sell products at wholesale to dealers and retailers including department stores. â⬠¢ Also sell beauty products in brand retail store together with ready-to-wear section. Retail Presence â⬠¢ With growth much higher than the average in its competitive market, Dior Beauty continued to gain market share globally. Dior beauty achieved clear successes in all product categories: start from perfumes for both men and women, then makeup, and finally the skincare segment. On-line and Digital Strategy â⬠¢ Using the web and social media is a new trend for luxury brands. But being innovative and ambitious while being loyal to the luxury image is not an easy game to play. Dior Beauty is overall growing in an impressive way. â⬠¢ With a strong support from LVMH Group, Dior Beauty is positively developing in diverse digital channels in mature and emerging markets, through both mainstream media and some chic platforms. Although Dior Beauty sets a good example for luxury brands in on-line and digital strategy, it still failed to make the top 10 list of the digital competence of 56 beauty brands according to L2ââ¬â¢s annual Digital IQ Index benchmark. Can we equally feel the same Dior? How can Dior Beauty convey its brand DNA and codes, culture, values, quality, craftsmanship and exclusivity on? line? â⬠¢ Dior Beauty doesnââ¬â¢t create a totally new website which is independent from Dior. In this way people can potentially get the whole idea about the brand DNA. Dior Beauty segment is divided into three particular parts: Perfume, Makeup and Skincare. The welcome pages of these three parts are all filled with the new campaign. â⬠¢ Each division is well-organized and user friendly. People can immerse in the Dior world with products introduction, collection images, and abundant knowhow videos. â⬠¢ While browsing, people can also get advise by a simple click. New Campaign Brand History Products information & clear collection name Easy to choose Direct connection with social media Code: Cannage Personalized advice Code: Oval Craftsmanship http://www. ior. com/beauty/fra/fr/the_house_of_dior/index/th/mur_de_notes/index. html â⬠¢ Various videos can show people the brand history, culture and value proposition. â⬠¢ They also create an atmosphere of exclusivity and provide a guarantee of high quality. â⬠¢ After selection, clients can easily open their own account and take the order on-line. Easy to order Clientsââ¬â¢ recommendations The challenges â⬠¢ It is reasonable that the Dior official site can successfully convey its brand DNA and exclusivity on-line. â⬠¢ However, not all the customers visit the official site to order beauty products. Most of on-line consumers still prefer shopping at mass beauty website such as Sephora, Harrods, Taobao, etc. â⬠¢ These websites differ from each other, then how to keep the coherence of the brand DNA with the necessity of adapting to distributorsââ¬â¢ style and local culture background is a huge challenge. â⬠¢ Besides, creating a luxury customer experience and also educating its customers on-line is definitely not easy to achieve. Example: Harrods â⬠¢ Even though people browse the website of Harrods, they can also feel the brand DNA and culture of Dior Beauty. â⬠¢ The products are segmented in the same way as Dior official site. All the campaigns and videos are consistent with Diorââ¬â¢s new promotion. Example: Taobao â⬠¢ Taobao is the most popular on-line shopping website in China which achieved 1000 billion RMB in 2012. A nd Dior Beauty made the Top1 in makeup sector. â⬠¢ However, apart from few words about Diorââ¬â¢s history, seldom can people find any brand DNA or consistency. â⬠¢ Products are presented randomly with no background information or sense of luxury. â⬠¢ The situation in Taobao is not the only case for Dior Beauty, almost all the luxury brands are facing with the same problem: people are buying a lot, ut they have no idea about brand story or collection concept, what they want is only the hot item, especially when the on-line shopping service is still unavailable at Diorââ¬â¢s official site in China and many other countries. â⬠¢ Therefore, it is crucial for the brand to avoid letting it be. They should try their best to educate the potential customers. It is hard, but indispensable. If Dior Beauty can start earlier, it is more possible to hold its leading position in the future. Example: Sephora â⬠¢ English version of welcome page. â⬠¢ French version is muc h more simple. Explore the brand Hot itemsProducts catalogue New campaign â⬠¢ Chinese version How to educate the customers? â⬠¢ From the Sephora example we can easily find the difference. Even though they sell almost the same products, the promotion strategies are quiet different. â⬠¢ As a well-known French brand, Dior obviously doesnââ¬â¢t need to make too many efforts to educate their mature customers. The only thing is to keep the coherence with the Brand DNA. â⬠¢ When dealing with international version, they pay more attentions to the details. We can see that there are more cultural parts to introduce the brand history and collection background information. How to educate the customers? â⬠¢ For the emerging market such as China, the website is much more well-organized. It is almost as complete as Diorââ¬â¢s official site. â⬠¢ Besides, if we take a further look, it is also interesting to see that there are more products introduction and hot items prom otion in Chinese version. That is probably because the customers from emerging markets focus more on popular products right now rather than brand DNA. â⬠¢ For example, the major ads in English and French welcome pages are showing Dior Beautyââ¬â¢s feminine feature. However, all the pictures in front page of Chinese version are products. Overall, it takes time to educate potential consumers, to help them turn from product consumer to brand consumer. Especially in beauty sector, each new product from other brand in the market may attract the clients who are not loyal customers yet. â⬠¢ With the fast development of digital system, it is hard to maintain interests of clients through only one way. That is why nowadays brands are caring more about the influence of social media. Brand Websites & Content Digital Strategy Social Media & Bloggers E-commerce How can Dior Beauty leverage on digital strategy to complement its physical stores presence?Brand Websites & Content â⬠¢ A s we analyzed before, the official site of Dior Beauty is quite impressive. The whole design is coherent with the brand DNA and culture, and tries to educate the viewers by all means. â⬠¢ However, there are still a few things need to be improved. â⬠¢ The cooperation between e-commerce and official website is missing in some countries. People from emerging market such as China, Brazil can not buy online yet. â⬠¢ The CRM system isnââ¬â¢t completed. For example, in China, customer need to change their shopping credits into gift by phone, and get their on-line account number by message. It is really inconvenient. E-commerce â⬠¢ With the strong promotion from LVMH Group, Christian Dior is now becoming more and more popular in its beauty division. â⬠¢ Dior Beauty is also following the similar e-commerce strategy as that of LVMH. Not only is it important to control the supply of products and distribution, but furthermore it is important to control the message. â⬠¢ As many brands move into conversational online media, such as Facebook and Twitter, they enter into a medium of a dialogue where third parties can completely alter or dilute the power of a message. Therefore, to control the message, you need to control the media. â⬠¢ Dior MAG launched in March 2012. E-commerce â⬠¢ While dealing with emerging markets, Dior Beauty hasnââ¬â¢t come up with efficient strategy yet due to the immature consumers and unpredictable market. â⬠¢ In reverse, the brand doesnââ¬â¢t want to provide recent products or executive collections to sell on-line in these markets, clients are more possible to acquire faked products and terrible experience. â⬠¢ Here one Miss Dior 50ml plus one Dior Addict 50ml cost no more than 40â⠬, and tens of thousands of Chinese customers were set up.Example Dior Mag â⬠¢ The online magazine will take fans of the brand inside the company from the past to the present. â⬠¢ It will feature articles that ent ertain as well as inform die-hard Dior fans. â⬠¢ The new magazine will feature higher resolution â⬠¢ The brand isnââ¬â¢t stopping images as well as there as they plan to roll out lengthier videos for iPad and iPhone versions of people to share. the magazine, for the fashionista on the go. Social Media & Bloggers â⬠¢ Dior has an active strategy on social media, and it dominates especially in Facebook and Twitter. Dior Beauty doesnââ¬â¢t have an independent account in social media. All the activities and promotions are posted together with Dior Couture. Coherent with new campaign Social Media & Bloggers â⬠¢ YouTube is becoming more noticeable in the beauty industryââ¬â¢s online ecosystem. More beauty brands are receiving upstream traffic from YouTube to their sites than in 2011. Dior is in the top 10 YouTube channels for beauty brands ranked by video views, per the study. â⬠¢ While watching the videos of new campaign, people can directly click the link to official site.Social Media & Bloggers â⬠¢ They have an independent channel at YouTube to introduce products and to enhance the brand recognition. â⬠¢ Videos are divided into different divisions, in this way customers can also be educated. Social Media & Bloggers â⬠¢ As a micro-blogging platform and social networking website, Tumblr allows users to post multimedia and other contents to a short-form blog. Users can follow other users' blogs, as well as make their blogs private. â⬠¢ An analysis by AddThis of shares through their service in 2011 noted that Tumblr sharing had increased by 1299. %. Social Media & Bloggers â⬠¢ The service is most popular with the teen and college-aged user segments with half of Tumblr's visitor base being under the age of 25. As of 2009, Tumblr had an 85% user retention rate, compared with 40% for Twitter. â⬠¢ Therefore, Dior launched its page at Feb. 2013 to attract young generation, as well as to educate potential consumers. Socia l Media & Bloggers â⬠¢ As a global brand, it is not enough to only focus on international social media. Some countries have their special limit on Internet and their own social media. Dior Beauty makes a lot of efforts on promoting at local social media. â⬠¢ For example, in China, Dior official page at Weibo has 568,535 fans, which is more than Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Gucci. â⬠¢ At the most important video site Youku, Dior has more than 12 million followers. It is also one of the earliest brands that created its own video channel. Social Media & Bloggers â⬠¢ The pages are coherent with each other, showing the consistency of the brand DNA. Social Media & Bloggers â⬠¢ WeChat is growing extremely fast from young generation to all, so Dior launched its public page at the beginning of 2013. However, it is not mature enough. For example, it lacks of the connection between WeChat and other social media, as well as purchasing possibility. Social Media & Bloggers â⬠¢ The fast development of social media and blog totally changed the concept of luxury traditional distribution strategy: from receiving information passively to create and spread contents actively. â⬠¢ Therefore it is crucial to not only provide abundant contents, but also build efficient channel to communicate with numerous potential customers in a luxury way. As we know, the biggest challenge for luxury brands is how to balance the image and business. Regard to digital strategy, that is how to lever on combined real stores as well as E, M and S commerce and technology to give empowered consumers more flexibility and convenience while preserving exclusivity. Example: Kaixin. com â⬠¢ Dior is one of the earliest luxury brands that created a public page at Kaixin. com, a website whose users are mostly white collars. â⬠¢ When Dior Beauty launched Jââ¬â¢adore in 2011, the public page delivered invitations to all the fans at Kaixin.Only one week, there were over 170 thous and people joined the launch event of this new fragrance. â⬠¢ Apart from watching and sharing with friends at Kaixin, fans can also share with people at Weibo. â⬠¢ Finally, over 840 thousand people interacted with Dior Beauty, 79% of fans opened their invitations and watched the advertisement. 37% of them shared with their friends. Example: Kaixin. com â⬠¢ Dior Beauty continues to interact with fans at Kaixin, who are mostly their targeted customers. â⬠¢ After watching the new campaign, people can fill in their personal information to Watch video earn samples. Cooperation with Kaixin is a great success to Dior Beauty, it encourages Diorââ¬â¢s digital Personal information strategy and satisfies the demand of high-end users at Invite friends and share Kaixin. OMNI Retail Strategy â⬠¢ Overall Dior Beauty has built an efficient and wellperformed OMNI retail strategy. â⬠¢ It remains true to its DNA & codes while maintaining exclusivity on-line as they do off-li ne. That is why Dior nowadays is getting a stronger image as well as becoming more popular. â⬠¢ It keeps on emphasizing the brand history and culture in different ways, so that potential customers can be educated and become more mature in the future. The initiative inside the brand and the strong support behind it give Dior Beauty so many opportunities to enter various social media, blogs, and e-commerce world as a pioneer. OMNI Retail Strategy â⬠¢ Two smartphone apps, Dior MAG and Dior Addict, truly and strongly invite consumers to engage in a two-way dialogue with Dior Beauty on various topics. â⬠¢ The combination of all channels will give empowered consumers more flexibility and convenience to purchase. â⬠¢ However, the leverage on brick and click still needs to be improved with more innovative strategies. Conclusion The digital revolution for luxury brands is on the way. Every brand that wants to stay in the leading place needs to create an entire shopping ecosys tem and memorable experience for customers. â⬠¢ Dior Beauty is definitely a leader in building OMNI retail channel, especially in new social media and in emerging markets. â⬠¢ Although so far Dior Beauty has performed well, regarding to the uncertainty and various possibilities of digital marketing in the future, it still has a lot to explore and to attempt. ââ¬Å"I create so that each and every woman is the most beautifulââ¬Å" ââ¬âââ¬â Christian Dior Dior Omni Channel Luxury Retail Management Individual Assignment Luxury Brands Digital & OMNI Retail Strategies Decoding DIOR DNA â⬠¢ â⬠¢ â⬠¢ Feminine Princess Sexy CODES â⬠¢ â⬠¢ â⬠¢ Cannage Knot & Oval Rose â⬠¢ â⬠¢ Flirtatious Francaise â⬠¢ â⬠¢ Avenue Montaigne New Look Distribution Strategy â⬠¢ Dior Beauty is following a multi-channel distribution strategy worldwide. â⬠¢ Mainly sell products at wholesale to dealers and retailers including department stores. â⬠¢ Also sell beauty products in brand retail store together with ready-to-wear section. Free Trade In Society Essay
How does the society benefit from an economy built on free trade where both the labor and the buyer only seek personal gain? Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã On an economy that is built of free trade, society will run like clockwork because of the various incentives that the various sectors of the economy provide.Ã It is human nature for individual to act upon incentives.Ã Children are commonly disciplined by their parents with the use of incentives. It is the same in the case of the laborer and the buyer.Ã Both of them seek only personal gain.Ã It is highly uncommon that either buyer or laborer will act for the greater good of the nation or for world peace.Ã They work because they want to earn a living.Ã They want a nicer car, a bigger home, a good education for their children, and a trip abroad for the summer perhaps.Ã All their efforts are targeted to their personal goals, all of which is quantifiable in terms of money. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã The laborer will always look for a place where there is a higher monetary yield for a lesser amount of work.Ã He will work harder if he knows that there is a promotion ahead. The buyer, on the other hand, will always search for a good bargain for any of his purchases.Ã All in all, everyone wants more for their money and time. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Society benefits from this system because it creates more competition in the markets of both buyers and laborers, resulting in more options and better options for both sectors.Ã With this equilibrium, society benefits because the economy benefits, thus increasing the standard of living. If however, there is an oversupply of labor, wages will go down and unemployment will go up, distorting the balance.Ã This is the same for buyers. A lack in competition will increase prices and decrease their purchasing power.Ã It is therefore necessary to maintain a good equilibrium in both labor markets and buyer markets which will result in a better economy, and which will eventually result in a higher standard of living for society.

Off-the-Job Behavior
Textbook Case Study Off-the-Job Behavior 1. Do you believe Oilerââ¬â¢s employee rights were violated? Explain your position. Peter Oilerââ¬â¢s termination from his job by the Winn-Dixie Corporation was an obvious violation of his employee rights. Though balancing employee rights with proper discipline is a constant challenge for HR professionals. But in this case of Oiler, the work place behavior of the employer had not changed and there is no problem, with the co-employers also. Also in the own time, the company have no rights about the way he dress.Hence there is also no such challenge for the Winn-Dixie that it has to terminate Oiler. Hence I would consider that Winn-Dixie has violated the employee rights of Oiler. Also his social security has been compromised. When we consider the situation here is more normal than a similar case in 2005, which happened in Georgia. According to that, the courts consider this as sexual discrimination under 42 U. S. C. Sec. 1983 and Equal Pro tection Clause of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. And the development of trans-gender transitions has a real concern and the laws accept the claims of discrimination under employerââ¬â¢s categorizing of genders. Thus Oilerââ¬â¢s claim is acceptable and Winn-Dixie has to oblige to the claims of Oiler. Here Oilerââ¬â¢s can be taken as an example of opposition of trans-genders in the general public. Though the laws are guarding them, the manipulation of thought caused by these cases is more than the actual violation. Since the court ruled out as not a violation, it will be a wrong guideline as the decision can be referenced in consecutive references. . What do you see as the consequences of organizations that punish employees for certain off-the-job behaviors? Explain. In the case of punishment of the employees, the people have united against this unrightfully action. Also it had created an uneasy environment among the workers. Most organizations which do the punishment of workers for off-job behaviors as they feel as their right, run the risk of being faced with numerous lawsuits and allegations of partiality and discriminatory practices.Hence these organizations end up with a bad reputation and a question mark for credibility. Which in turn costs, they also face losing customers, business partners and stockholders. There will be a greater number of individuals who do not agree with these abrupt decisions than who support it. Hence they will decide to cut their ties with organizations who favor such practices. It would be safe to assume that many businesses that were previously a part of the Winn-Dixie organizations like financial institutions, suppliers etc. ade the decision to no longer be associated with a company that would practice such unethical and immoral standards of business. This will in turn destroy the past achievement and the support it had earned and also future trades with other organization is also threatened. Hence it completely obliterates the potential success of any business or organization. Any business organization must have rules and regulations which must be followed to and by all employees. Additionally, businesses must have particular methods in place to discipline individuals who do not follow the rules. 3.Would you consider Winn-Dixie an organization that exhibits characteristics of progressive discipline or the hot stove approach? Defend your position. According to me, Winn-Dixie is an organization which exhibits hot stove characteristics. This can be made on seeing the action taken by Winn-Dixie. Oiler has a clean organizational behavior and has a perfect work record. His career track record is also proper and he is considered as an asset by all the workers. When we consider about the harshness of the Disciplinary action, terminating the employee is considered as a most severe disciplinary action. And the Winn-Dixie had done this, hence it is a Hot stove characteristic. The hot-stove approach p unishes all unacceptable behaviors with identical disciplinary actions whereas the progressive approach, warns individuals depending on the harshness and/or the reoccurrence of actions and behaviors which they have previously been warned against. The severe disciplinary action can be taken for an offense is so serious that immediate dismissal is appropriate such as theft, sexual harassment, violence, plagiarism etc.And since the person involved has not done anything, hence he should not be taken severe discipline. Also before taking a decision of terminating the employee, the company neither talked to Oiler for an explanation nor it has given Oiler a verbal warning so that he can be more careful in future. Thus it had taken the action immediately and without giving time to Oiler for confirming his position or giving any explanation. Hence Winn-Dixie is following hot stove procedure in disciplinary actions.
